Donna Gordon is a Colorado Native and
has a true appreciation of the ability to see beauty
and turn it into a tangible form. She graduated from
Metropolitan State College in December of 1994 with
a degree in Psychology. Donna has always been interested
in various mediums of art and has always enjoyed working
with her hands. In the fall of 1998 Donna decided it
was time to let her creative juices flow. A lampworking
studio was set up in the basement of her home and the
work and ideas have not stopped since. Lampworking is
a form of glassblowing in which the glass is worked
at a table or a bench with a torch.
October of 1999 brought about a huge change for Donna
when she took her first lesson in offhand glassblowing.
The art of offhand glasswork is done by gathering molten
glass from a furnace on a punty or blowpipe then using
various tools to work and shape the glass. The artist
literally uses their breath to bring this molten glass
to life. An extraordinary relationship between the artist
and the glass begins, new with each piece. It is a personal
relationship with such intensity, that it is much like
an intimate sensual dance between the artist and the
glass.
